Sky High University
Sky High University, India's No. 1 university, is every student's dream destination. While rich families easily secure seats for their children, middle-class students face significant challenges. However, a few top-performing students from humble backgrounds receive prestigious scholarships every year.
A taxi stopped in front of the university entrance, Raj Sharma, a 52-year-old man with a warm smile, emerged from the back seat. He paid the driver, exchanging pleasantries about the traffic.
"Keep the change, beta," Raj said, handing over a few extra rupees.
The driver smiled and nodded, "Thank you, sir. Have a great day!"
Raj walked to the right side of the back seat, opened the door, and called out, "Avi, come out, baccha!"
Avni, his 19-year-old daughter, hesitated for a moment before stepping out of the taxi. Her eyes scanned the university's imposing entrance, a mix of excitement and nervousness on her face.
Raj helped Avni with her luggage, his eyes beaming with pride. "You're finally here, baccha! Sky High University, India's best."
She nervously smiled, and Raj, sensing his daughter's nervousness, smiled warmly and ruffled Avni's hair. "Don't worry, beta" he said reassuringly, "You'll do great things here."
She nodded her head, and Raj smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "So, let's go inside," he said, gesturing toward the university entrance.
Avni gave her father a bright smile, then, in a tender gesture, held his hand like a small girl. Raj's heart swelled with love and nostalgia as they walked toward the university entrance together.
As they approached the imposing gates, Avni's grip on his hand tightened, her nervousness palpable. Raj recognized the subtle sign and gave her hand a reassuring squeeze.
"It's okay, beta," he whispered, his voice gentle. "You're going to do great. Just be yourself."
Avni looked up at him, her eyes shining with a mix of excitement and apprehension. Raj offered a warm, encouraging smile, his eyes locking onto hers.
Avni's wide, innocent eyes scanned the university campus, drinking in the vibrant colors and bustling energy. She looked like a curious child exploring a wonderland, her gaze darting from one fascinating sight to another.
The sleek, modern buildings seemed to awe her, their glass facades glinting in the sunlight. She marveled at the lush green lawns, the neatly trimmed hedges, and the vibrant flowers swaying in the gentle breeze.
As they walked, Avni's grip on Raj's hand remained tight, her anchor in this new, overwhelming environment. She glanced up at him, her eyes sparkling with wonder, seeking reassurance.
Raj smiled, his heart swelling with love. "It's beautiful, isn't it, Avi?" he asked, his voice filled with pride.
Avni nodded enthusiastically, her ponytail bobbing. "Wow, Papa! So big and pretty!"
They strolled past the student union building, where posters advertising clubs and events covered the walls. Avni's eyes widened at the diversity of interests and activities.
"Look, Papa! Dance club! And debate team! And... and robotics!"
Raj chuckled. "You'll find your passions, Avi. And make unforgettable memories."
Soon, they reached the principal's cabin and Avni entered inside. After completing all the formalities, she stepped outside. As they emerged from the principal's cabin, Avni's face lit up with a radiant smile, her eyes sparkling with excitement. Raj's heart swelled with pride and relief, seeing his daughter's apprehensions fade away.
"All set, beta?" Raj asked, beaming with joy.
Avni nodded enthusiastically, her ponytail bobbing. "Yes, Papa! I'm officially a Sky High University student!"
Raj hugged her tight, feeling a mix of emotions: pride, happiness, and a hint of nostalgia. "I'm so proud of you,Avni. You're growing up to be an amazing person."
Avni's smile widened, her eyes shining with gratitude. "Thanks, Papa. I couldn't have done it without you."
